Daily life starts to settle in

Dear readers,
I have now been in Japan for 2 and a half weeks, and slowly, daily life is settling in. Of course this doesn't mean that no more fun stuff is happening! Just the (weekdays) are now filled with a new rythm that will keep up until Christmas. Getting up in the morning to be on time for work is one of the less fun but most necessary things now. Not that I didn't have to get up every morning in the last weeks, but as an example, last friday I just slept until noon.

We had a library tour in the afternoon, which was a great opportunity to take a picture of the YSEP group (no guarantee that everyone is on it though).
After that, back to the lab again for some NMR measurements, and I got the great news that my synthesis had actually worked! Getting home as late as usual (around 9 p.m.) I had a nice evening with a few YSEP friends form my dorm, which consisted of watching Youtube vids.

Saturday evening, we went out to Shibuya (yeah not so original, but it's only the second time...) and had an excellent dinner. There is really a great diversity in the food, from delicious to "never again". This yakiniku
definitely can be counted to the best of food. I can recommend it strongly.
Saturday I had also spent half of the day making and writing for this blog, so it was a nice end to a surprisingly laborious day.

Today, lab work was replaced by presentations: 5 students of the group presented their work of the last couple of months at the lab. This was very interesting, seeing the diversity of work, and the way people think about things. It was also an excellent occasion to get to know some of the students in a professional environment. The only difficulties I had was with the language: Master course students presented their work in Japanese (4 of the 5 were Master course students...) so I had to figure out what the discussion was about using only pictures. No easy task, but possible. And questions could be asked in English.
Lunch today was at a Chinese restaurant near the main entrance of Tokyo Tech. Highlight: being served salad, with chop sticks! Was good though, so I'm not going complain!
So, after a long day of listening to people, I am now home and ready for bed! Good Night!
